About the University of Nebraska Livestock Judging Camp

Why should I attend? Do you wish to enhance your livestock evaluation and selection skills? Do you wish to become better with oral reasons? Do you wish to become more competitive in your 4H or FFA Livestock Judging Competitions? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then, the 2007 University of Nebraska Livestock Judging Camp is for you. Through your involvement with this camp, you will learn the basic fundamentals of livestock judging and evaluation, receive one-on-one instruction with oral reasons from those who have successfully competed at the collegiate level, and become more confident with livestock judging! In fact, numerous past camp attendees have gone on to participate in national competition!

For the experienced, the camp will provide an intense 4-day workout combining instructional components with competitive events designed to engage campers in the art and science of livestock evaluation and selection.

For the novice, the camp will focus on livestock judging fundamentals and provide an introduction to oral reasons using an array of fun activities that will physically and mentally challenge those youth!

Each camper receives a DVD of camp activities and instructional materials!

No camp, by itself, will ever turn you into a professional livestock judge or a seasoned veteran of giving reasons overnight, but we will provide you with the basic tools and background to be successful.

WANT MORE? For an additional $25, stay an extra two days and participate in our Youth Livestock 100 (for youth ages 14 and over). Through this program, sponsored by the Nebraska Beef Council, you will gain additional knowledge regarding value determination of beef as you follow animals through the cooler and fabricate the carcasses into wholesale and retail cuts! Learn about the issues and factors that affect producers and influence consumers. By participating in both activities, you save $25 compared to the individual registration fees for the separate activities.
