RULES AND REGULATIONS

Section A: Eligibility

1. Exhibitors must be 4-H/FFA members and enrolled in 4-H/FFA. Exhibitor must be age 9 through 19 as of September 30, 2009. For the purpose of these rules, an exhibitor will be defined as the individual who owns and cares for the animal. Eligibility for 4-H membership terminates on December 31 of the year the member has their 19th birthday. Entries must be made in exhibitor’s name. Only individuals with an animal entered in the show will be classified as exhibitors.

2. Showmanship classes will be divided into Novice, Junior and Senior. Novice showmen will be those who have not shown before January 1, 2009. Junior showmen will be those exhibitors who are under 14 years of age as of September 30, 2009. Senior showmen will be those exhibitors 14 years of age or older as of September 30, 2009.

3. Youth wishing to enter an animal in the show must be enrolled in a sheep or goat project and under the supervision of a 4-H Leader, Extension Agent, or a Vo-Ag Instructor.

4. All entries and fees must be received by Terry Gochenour, President, payable to Shenandoah Valley Lamb & Goat Breeders Assoc. or S.V.L.G.B.A by June 13, 2009. Mail to: 625 Coffmantown Road, Woodstock, Virginia 22664. A non-refundable entry fee of $12 per head must accompany entry forms. Late entries will be taken up to weigh-in. Late fees will be $18 per head, and exhibitor must have an entry form filled out and signed by their Extension Agent or Vo. Ag. Instructor. They must also have a completed health form.

5. Stall fee of $10 required at check-in. Fee refunded upon inspection after stall has been cleaned and animals removed.

6. All entries must be on the grounds by 9:30 a.m. on June 20, 2009.

Section B: Show Rules

1. All exhibitors are expected to abide by all show rules. Gentlemanly and lady like conduct is expected of all exhibitors, parents or guardians of exhibitors, and spectators. Any persons acting otherwise will be asked to leave the grounds.

2. All animals must be shown by the exhibitor in whose name they are entered unless the exhibitor has more than one animal in the same class. In such a case, another exhibitor may show the animal.

3. Exhibitors will be responsible for providing the needed bedding for their animals. Exhibitors are urged to use a minimum of bedding, as they will be responsible for cleaning up their stalls and removing the bedding from the premises (this means to be taken with you). Those who fail to clean up their stall area will not receive their stall fee deposit back and no prize money. Anyone who fails to do so may be prohibited from participating in 2010.

4. Vehicle operators will observe designated parking areas and follow instructions of the grounds committee. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the grounds.

5. Exhibitors’ numbers must be worn at all times while exhibitor is showing an animal.

6. Any complaints must be presented in writing on the day of the show to the show chairperson, and must be signed by the person(s) registering the complaint.

7. Judges’ decisions will be final in regard to the placing of all classes.

8. Showmanship is mandatory.

9. Virginia Cooperative Extension, Shenandoah County 4-H/FFA Livestock Show and Sale Committee, Shenandoah County Fair Association and the Shenandoah County Lamb & Goat Breeders Association are not responsible for any injuries to exhibitors, animals, spectators, or personal property.

10. This is a dry show. Lambs and goats are to be shown clean and dry. Exhibitors are expected to care for their animals in an acceptable manner and adhere to meat animal production quality assurance guidelines. Only tap water may be applied topically, and the application of commercial sprays/lotions, alcohol, and any other substance is prohibited on show day. Application of ice or iced water in any form is prohibited (included but not limited to sprays, packs, blankets, or towels). Any violation of this rule will result in disqualification of the exhibitor and all of his/her lambs/goats from the show.

11. Violation of any of these rules will result in disqualification, forfeit of premium, or both at the discretion of the show committee.

12. Any exceptions or changes to these rules or any topics not covered by these rules will be considered by the show and rules committee members, and their decisions will be final.

Section C: Market Lambs

1. All lambs must be slick shorn. Within 2 weeks of the show.

2. Market Lambs are defined as those lambs intended for show and sale in the summer and fall of 2007.

3. Classes will be shown by weights as determined by the show committee.

Section D: Market Goats

1. All goats must be under one year of age and intended for show or sale during the summer/fall show season.

2. Goats may be doelings or wethers (showing no evidence of testicular tissue).

3. All goat classes will be broken by weight and based on the number of entries.

Health Requirements

1. Due to the Foot & Mouth Disease situation worldwide the state veterinarian has suggested that all livestock shows require exhibitors/family/friends and others in attendance, who have been overseas visiting countries with active case of FMD within the three weeks proceeding the show to avoid contact with any livestock.

2. All animals will be examined by members of the show committee, or a local veterinarian during weigh-in. Any animal showing signs of contagious diseases will be eliminated from the show and confined to truck or trailer. Due to the contagious nature of “Club Lamb Fungus”, “Wild Fungus”, “Ring Worm”, “Sore Mouth”, “Foot Rot” and “Foot Scald” all animals will be inspected for signs or symptoms of the diseases.

3. All out of state entries must be accompanied by current health certificate.
