RULES AND REGULATIONS
Section A: Eligibility
1. Exhibitors must be 4-H/FFA
members and enrolled in 4-H/FFA. Exhibitor must be age 9 through 19
as of September 30, 2008. For the purpose of these rules, an
exhibitor will be defined as the individual who owns and cares for
the animal. Eligibility for 4-H membership terminates on December 31
of the year the member has their 19th birthday. Entries must be made
in exhibitor’s name. Only individuals with an animal entered in the
show will be classified as exhibitors.
2. Showmanship classes will be divided into Novice, Junior and
Senior. Novice showmen will be those who have not shown before
January 1, 2008. Junior showmen will be those exhibitors who are
under 14 years of age as of September 30, 2008. Senior showmen will
be those exhibitors 14 years of age or older as of September 30,
2008.
3. Youth wishing to enter an animal in the show must be enrolled in
a sheep or goat project and under the supervision of a 4-H Leader,
Extension Agent, or a Vo-Ag Instructor.
4. All entries and fees must be received by Terry Gochenour,
President, payable to Shenandoah Valley Lamb & Goat Breeders Assoc.
or S.V.L.G.B.A by June 14, 2008. Mail to: 625 Coffmantown Road,
Woodstock, Virginia 22664. A non-refundable entry fee of $12 per
head must accompany entry forms. Late entries will be taken up to
weigh-in. Late fees will be $18 per head, and exhibitor must have an
entry form filled out and signed by their Extension Agent or Vo. Ag.
Instructor. They must also have a completed health form.
5. Stall fee of $10 required at check-in. Fee refunded upon
inspection after stall has been cleaned and animals removed.
6. All entries must be on the grounds by 9:30 a.m. on June 21, 2008.
Section B: Show Rules
1. All exhibitors are expected to
abide by all show rules. Gentlemanly and lady like conduct is
expected of all exhibitors, parents or guardians of exhibitors, and
spectators. Any persons acting otherwise will be asked to leave the
grounds.
2. All animals must be shown by the exhibitor in whose name they are
entered unless the exhibitor has more than one animal in the same
class. In such a case, another exhibitor may show the animal.
3. Exhibitors will be responsible for providing the needed bedding
for their animals. Exhibitors are urged to use a minimum of bedding,
as they will be responsible for cleaning up their stalls and
removing the bedding from the premises (this means to be taken with
you). Those who fail to clean up their stall area will not receive
their stall fee deposit back and no prize money. Anyone who fails to
do so may be prohibited from participating in 2009.
4. Vehicle operators will observe designated parking areas and
follow instructions of the grounds committee. Failure to do so may
result in expulsion from the grounds.
5. Exhibitors’ numbers must be worn at all times while exhibitor is
showing an animal.
6. Any complaints must be presented in writing on the day of the
show to the show chairperson, and must be signed by the person(s)
registering the complaint.
7. Judges’ decisions will be final in regard to the placing of all
classes.
8. Showmanship is mandatory.
9. Virginia Cooperative Extension, Shenandoah County 4-H/FFA
Livestock Show and Sale Committee, Shenandoah County Fair
Association and the Shenandoah County Lamb & Goat Breeders
Association are not responsible for any injuries to exhibitors,
animals, spectators, or personal property.
10. This is a dry show. Lambs and goats are to be shown clean and
dry. Exhibitors are expected to care for their animals in an
acceptable manner and adhere to meat animal production quality
assurance guidelines. Only tap water may be applied topically, and
the application of commercial sprays/lotions, alcohol, and any other
substance is prohibited on show day. Application of ice or iced
water in any form is prohibited (included but not limited to sprays,
packs, blankets, or towels). Any violation of this rule will result
in disqualification of the exhibitor and all of his/her lambs/goats
from the show.
11. Violation of any of these rules will result in disqualification,
forfeit of premium, or both at the discretion of the show committee.
12. Any exceptions or changes to these rules or any topics not
covered by these rules will be considered by the show and rules
committee members, and their decisions will be final.
Section C: Market Lambs
1. All lambs must be slick shorn.
Within 2 weeks of the show.
2. Market Lambs are defined as those lambs intended for show and
sale in the summer and fall of 2007.
3. Classes will be shown by weights as determined by the show
committee.
Section D: Market Goats
1. All goats must be under one
year of age and intended for show or sale during the summer/fall
show season.
2. Goats may be doelings or wethers (showing no evidence of
testicular tissue).
3. All goats must be polled, de-horned or tipped.
4. All goat classes will be broken by weight and based on the number
of entries.
Health Requirements
1. Due to the Foot & Mouth
Disease situation worldwide the state veterinarian has suggested
that all livestock shows require exhibitors/family/friends and
others in attendance, who have been overseas visiting countries with
active case of FMD within the three weeks proceeding the show to
avoid contact with any livestock.
2. All animals will be examined by members of the show committee, or
a local veterinarian during weigh-in. Any animal showing signs of
contagious diseases will be eliminated from the show and confined to
truck or trailer. Due to the contagious nature of “Club Lamb
Fungus”, “Wild Fungus”, “Ring Worm”, “Sore Mouth”, “Foot Rot” and
“Foot Scald” all animals will be inspected for signs or symptoms of
the diseases.
3. All out of state entries must be accompanied by current health
certificate. |
