Benton County 4-H Fun/Game Horse Show
April 5th, 2008 -- 10 am (gates open at 9 am)
Benton County Fairgrounds, Ashland, MS (indoor arena)
$3 Entry Fee per class ($20 flat
fee for entry to all classes)
Gate Fee $3 per person or $5 per vehicle (6 yrs. and under are FREE)
Whether you are 2 or 102
yrs old we have something for everyone. So bring your horse (mini,
pony, donkey, and mule), your kids, and/or grandkids and let’s play.
There will be games to be enjoyed by kids as well as adults.
Ribbons will be awarded for 1st thru 5th places and a HIGH POINT
BELT BUCKLE will be awarded at the end of the show.
Coggins will be checked
at the gate.
Class Descriptions
1. Keyhole Race
A keyhole shape is drawn in the center at the end of the arena. You
are to take your horse into the keyhole turn around and get you and
your horse out of the arena. Fastest time wins.
2. Rescue Race
Your partner goes to the center of the keyhole at the end of the
arena and is tied with a lead rope to a stake. You and your horse
must go rescue your partner and get you, your partner, and your
horse out of the arena. Fastest time wins.
3. Stepping Stones
You and your horse must enter the keyhole and you have to walk on
top of the upside down buckets while leading your horse and then get
you and your horse out of the arena. Fastest time wins.
4. Musical Feed Sacks
Just like musical chairs except you have to mount your horse and
proceed when the music starts. When the music stops you have to
dismount your horse and get on a sack. Once your horse’s girth has
passed a sack you cannot go backwards.
5. Sack Race
You and your horse must go to the 1st barrel where you will get in a
sack and hop to the keyhole while leading your horse. Then you will
get out of the sack and get you and your horse out of the arena.
Fastest time wins.
6. Fox and Hound Barrels
A horse a rider will perform the barrel racing pattern at a
walk/trot/lope varied speed and this speed will be the ideal time
for the class. The following rider with the closest time to the
ideal time wins.
7. Potato Race
You and your horse must go to the 3rd barrel, get a potato out of a
bucket, and then get you and your horse out of the arena. Fastest
time wins.
8. Phone Book Race
You must draw a number and then take your horse to the 3rd barrel in
the barrel pattern and retrieve the page number you have drawn from
the phone book and get you and your horse out of the arena. Fastest
time wins.
9. Panty Race
You must take your horse to the 3rd barrel in the barrel pattern and
put on a large pair of panties and get you and your horse out of the
arena. Fastest time wins.
10. Flag Race
You must take your horse to the 3rd barrel in the barrel pattern and
place the flag in the bucket with sand and get you and your horse
out of the arena. Fastest time wins.
11. Pony Express Run
You and your horse must go through a pole pattern and pick up mail
bags, go to the 3rd barrel in the barrel pattern and pick up mail
from a person and then take the mail to the mail box and get you and
your horse out of the arena. The fastest time wins.
12. Trail Class
This will be a standard trail class with simple obstacles.
13. Trail Class - In Hand
This will be a standard trail class with simple obstacles to be
performed while dismounted.
14. Backwards Boogie - Mounted
How far/fast can you get your horse to backup?? The one who can get
to the finish point first wins.
15. Backwards Boogie - In Hand
How far/fast you get your horse to backup?? The one who can get to
the finish point first wins.
16. Egg and Spoon
Each rider will be given an egg and spoon. The last rider that has
not dropped their spoon wins.
17. Ride Tied
You will have a partner and while both are mounted, with wrists tied
together with crape paper, you will ride around the arena. The last
team with their wrists still tied wins.
18. Stick Horse Race
Everyone bring your stick horse (or broom) and prepare to race.
19. Ride a Buck - Saddled
The rider will sit on a dollar bill and ride. The last rider still
sitting on their money wins.
20. Ride a Buck - Bareback
The rider will sit on a dollar bill and ride bareback. The last
rider still sitting on their money wins.
